I heard about a bill in SC that would require women in SC seeking an abortion to view an ultrasound first.  I agree with the requirement on principle, though I do not know all the details of the bill.  I don't know whom the bill would require to pay, but the state should pay for the ultrasound.

An abortion affects the fetus far more than it does the mother.  I believe the "fetus" to be worthy of some legal protection.  If I could work my will, almost all abortions at the fetal stage would be banned.  As to this bill, when one person unilaterally makes a decision that affects another, he should not be allowed to deny the other's existence or pretend that the facts are not as they are.  In this case, closing one's eyes to the ultrasound is hauntingly similar to Bush closing his eyes to the predictions about the results of his Iraq excursion.
